SUBJECT: Meyerland PVA PTO Newsletter (August 10, 2025)

August 10, 2025

Dear Greyhound Families,

This is the week we’ve been waiting for! Back to school!!

Our former PTO President Amanda Sorena has shared some very important information for the start of the school year on our school community FB page… so I thought I’d share it here as well.

  1. The first day is long. Send a book. They will sit in homeroom for what feels like forever. Tell them to be patient. They are sorting out kids who just showed up and kids with no schedules. Also, schedules may be wrong. Hang tight, there will be info on how to do a schedule change if you need it.
  2. Homeroom....we *might* know ahead of time, we might not. Either way, they will get directed to where they need to go on the first day. Typically, schedules are handed out in homeroom.
  3. If you recently registered or cannot see where they are supposed to go for homeroom in PowerSchool/Ontrack/Whatever, your kid might end up in the auditorium or cafeteria until they get them sorted. They will get it sorted, promise.
  4. They *should* be coming home with some info from their teachers about school supplies, magnet program fees, if your teacher is using any electronic messaging like ParentSquare, Group Me, Remind, etc. Ask them if they got anything 'cause they probably shoved it in the bottom of their backpack.
  5. There will be teachers in the hallways for the first few weeks helping them get to where they need to go. If you have a older kiddo, tell them to help the kids who look totally lost.
  6. They should get IDs, Chromebooks, etc. the first few weeks of school. They will take care of issuing these things at school and we should get emails about any tech agreements we need to turn in.
  7. Remind your kid to pay attention to morning announcements for things like sports try outs, clubs, etc. Most of this kind of communication is given directly to students and it is their responsibility to tell you if they are interested in something or contact the teachers directly.
  8. Remember, the MPVA website is your friend and is updated ALL the time with new information. It is currently being updated now (all of the district websites are)
  9. Principal Mitchell's weekly emails should also start soon. They are full of great information and dates. They are also all saved on the MPVA site under Parent Communication. PTO also has great newsletters, so join! It's free!

I hope this information is helpful! Here’s to a great first day of school! Go Greyhounds!

Corporate Sponsors

Hey-o! Fundraising Team here! We’re looking forward to an awesome year at MPVA, and we have a few ways Greyhound families and community members can help us start strong. Your PTO raises money to serve and benefit the whole school, and in the fall we do that primarily through uniform sales on the PTO website, Before/After-Care, the “We Are MPVA” fundraiser in October, monthly Spirit Nights and First Friday Kona Ice after school, and our clutch sponsor partners.

The MPVA Fundraising Team would like to thank our 2024-2025 Rockstar Sponsors who helped support the great work in our school last year:

Boutros Orthodontics, Bellaire Family Eye Care, Scenthound, Gumbo Express, Plumbco, RV Masters, Cafe Piquet, STS Brands, Terry Cominsky, Tracie Parzen, Breena Toussant, Pauline Mathiesen, Kona Ice, Raising Cane’s, Chicken Salad Chick, Tapestry Grill, Chick-Fil-A, Mod Pizza, Coffee Trend, Cool Runnings, Jeannie’s Cakes, Shipley’s, Houston Catering Concepts, Card My Yard, Houston Orthodontic Specialists, Martha Turner Sotheby’s International Realty, A-1 Dental & Associates, Bricks & Minifigs, The ‘401, Maple Tree Learning, Manditos, Rita’s Italian Ice and Frozen Custard, Breeze Landscaping, and Nothing Bundt Cakes.

These generous folks helped support year-round teacher appreciation efforts, student incentives, teacher grants and administration requests, 8th grade and school celebrations, spirit-wear, campus beautification, special projects, and needs too numerous to name. THANK YOU

We’re looking forward to a fresh year, and excited to again partner with kind corporate sponsors to help all of our students and staff have a fantastic year at MPVA.

Do you own a business, or do you know someone who does? Do you have a skill or service that could build up the MPVA community? Are you partial to helping support a certain type of event, want to underwrite an event, or would you like to just make a donation to be used as needed? We’d be glad to connect with you and make sure our community knows the people who raise their hand and give to make MPVA a truly wonderful school.
